Website Evaluation

The task at hand: Review a Website.
Website of Choice: EducationWorld

Overall great website! Awesome for future and current educators and administrators to use. The website is a huge database of resources. The have received many awards and recognition (i.e., USA Today "Best Bet for Educators", Microsoft "Top 10 Educational Resources"). The website provides information about its general manager and editors affiliations and reputations that gives it reliability. They have given resources for teachers and administrators by grade level and subject area. The site is easy to navigate and has good graphics!EducationWorld offers FREE resources that are good! Like lesson plans, worksheets, games, newsletters, literature and so much more.

Why review?

After completing the website review activity, I have realized the importance of reviewing a website prior to sharing it with students and parents. If you do not choose to review it before encouraging your students to visit the site, you may run into the awkward and possibly serious situation when they encounter material that is not suitable, reliable, accessible, or not useful. Another valuable reason to review sites a head of time, is to ensure the computer has the necessary required plug-ins in order access information on the site. Note to self: Review all websites if I have intent to share them with others! And keep them handy so they are right there when needed.

The start of my blog!

The purpose of this blog is to reflect on what I learn in TPTE 486, Intergrating Technology into the K-12 Curriculum. Here I will discuss aspects of technology and Web 2.0 that I think could be useful in Secondary Math classroom.

To start, blogging is an interesting tool. It can be used by so many people involved in education, for example: students, teachers, and parents. I also think Wikis are interesting, and I would like to learn more about the educational benefits and uses of wikis and blogs.

I expect to learn of many different ways to use technology and the internet, in addition to blogging, that will make my classroom more interactive and productive. I look forward to adding many technological resources to my repertoire so that I can become more successful teacher.
